Nery Castillo is an Impressive Soccer Player

3 07 2007

I watched the Gold Cup which the US won after beating Mexico in the Finals and I am following the Copa America closely. I discovered a player which I didn’t know two months ago: Nery Castillo. He is from Mexico and plays for Olympiacos in Greece. I am amazed at how good this guy is. He is young but is probably already the best player in the CONCACAF region.

The guy is quick, has a great touch, is very agressive with or without the ball, and plays with so much heart. I’ve always been a fan of soccer players who make the game pretty and entertaining (such as Leonardo, Romario, Robinho, Okocha) but lately I find myself liking the guys that put their heart into the games. The guys that play each game like it was a World Cup final. Nery Castillo does just that and if he continues this way he might gain a spot on my soccer Wall Of Fame. He would be joining the following players who made my list:

  • Romario
  • Leonardo
  • Robinho
  • Okocha
  • George Weah

And while we are on the subject of players who play with character, I have to mention my favorite basketball player: Allen Iverson. He is a true warrior. This guy plays every game like he was at war. And then they have the guts to talk to him about practice (lol):

Rails :include Gotcha

1 07 2007

If you are using the :include option of the find function in Active Record, there is a big gotcha: you have to disambiguate all column names used in other parameters to ‘find’ (prefix each with the name of the table that contains it).

For example, the following will give you an error:

Post.find(:all, :include => [:user, :comments], :order => “created_at DESC”)

The error that you get is the following: Column ‘created_at’ in order clause is ambiguous
The fix is really easy:

Post.find(:all, :include => [:user, :comments], :order => “post.created_at DESC”)

Note that I changes created_at to post.created_at.
I would have saved myself some debugging time had I known that so I just wanted to share.
